Why Do I Feel Sick After Vaping?

People vape to enjoy, socialize, and even for some perceived health benefits. Generally, after vaping, they feel relaxed they feel better. However, this is not always the case. Some people might not feel well after using CBD pens. Thus, they ask, “Why do I feel sick after vaping?”

It appears that some people are sensitive to one or another vape ingredient. Understanding the cause of sickness due to vaping may help make better choices and prevent issues. Of course, vaping would not make you severely sick, but it may cause dizziness and nausea. Some common reasons for feeling sick after vaping are:

CBD Overdosing

Though uncommon, it is quite possible that you are sensitive to CBD and overdosing on it. Hence, if you feel dizzy after vaping, just reduce your vaping time or number of puffs. It is good to start vaping slowly and then progress. Most people would develop resistance to CBD, and they would stop feeling sick after vaping.[1]

Low-Quality or Contaminated E-liquid

The quality of the e-liquid you are vaping matters. Low-quality or contaminated e-liquids can contain impurities, toxins, or harmful chemicals that can make you feel sick. Ensure you purchase e-liquids from reputable sources and check for third-party testing.

Allergic Reactions

Some people may be sensitive or allergic to certain ingredients in e-liquids, such as propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerine (VG). Allergic reactions can manifest as nausea, skin rashes, or respiratory issues. If you suspect an allergy, consider switching to an e-liquid with different ingredients.

PG/VG Ratio

The ratio of PG to VG in your e-liquid can also affect how you feel after vaping. Some individuals may experience stomach discomfort, coughing or nausea when using e-liquids with a high PG content. Experimenting with different ratios to find what works best for you might be helpful.

Dehydration

Vaping can lead to mild dehydration, as both the act of inhaling and the ingredients in e-liquids can contribute to fluid loss. Dehydration can cause symptoms like dry mouth, dizziness, and nausea. Staying hydrated while vaping is essential.

Improper Technique

Using the wrong inhalation technique or drawing too hard on the vape device can lead to excessive vapour and throat irritation, which may result in nausea. Sometimes, inhaling too quickly may also cause sickness and result in burnt taste.

Overheating or High Wattage

Vaping at high wattages can cause the e-liquid to heat up quickly and produce harsh, hot vapour. This can lead to discomfort, including nausea. Ensure you are using a device and settings appropriate for your experience level.

Vaping on an Empty Stomach

Some people may feel nauseated when they vape on an empty stomach. Though CBD does not negatively influence the digestive system, some people do not tolerate it well. This, along with wrong vaping techniques, may cause stomach upset.

The Bottom Line

If you regularly experience feelings of sickness after vaping, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional. They can help determine the cause and recommend solutions or alternative methods for your needs.

Additionally, if you want to quit smoking and use vaping as a cessation tool, consider discussing other smoking cessation methods with a healthcare provider, as they might be more effective and safer in the long run.
